Helpful Equipment if Trying to Remove Tree Stumps

Removing a stump can be a difficult task. It’s even harder if you don’t have the right equipment. More than one man has ranged out into his yard with axe and shovel in hand, planning to break the stump up and dig it out. Unfortunately, it’s almost never that simple. The following are some of the more helpful pieces of equipment that can actually expedite the process, making it more feasible for the average individual to undertake -Helpful Equipment if Trying to Remove Tree Stumps.

For a smaller stump, you may find that your needs will be best-suited by a tractor. If you can dig up the ground around the stump well enough with a shovel and sever the roots, you can usually remove the stump with sufficient traction thereafter. This is not the most efficient way to do it, but it’s vastly superior to trying to destroy the stump and remove it piecemeal, which is an understandable first instinct. Tractors are generally affordable to rent, especially if removing the stump is the only job you’re going to need it for. Tractors are also relatively-easy to operate.

For larger stumps, you’re going to want to look into much larger earth-movers. A smaller excavator or backhoe will be the fastest and easiest way to remove a stump most of the time, but this isn’t always the most efficient solution. If you know how to operate heavy machinery, this can let you dig in and expose the stump for removal very simply, but the associated prerequisites may make this less-than-desirable. Run a cost comparison to see whether renting a backhoe or hiring a professional is more cost-effective for your stump-removal needs.

For the average individual, the best and most efficient solution will probably be a stump grinder. Stump grinders are generally easy enough to operate with minimal training, but they usually have to be rented. There’s little reason to own one yourself if you aren’t regularly removing stumps. They operate by chipping away the wood on a gradual basis. This reduces the stump and roots to nothing more than chips which can be easily removed. It’s a time-consuming process, but no moreso than digging the stump up. If you’re primarily concerned with the cosmetic ramifications of stump removal and aren’t worried about clearing out the entire root network, renting a stump grinder will usually serve you very well.

Stump removal is rarely a fun job, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. As long as you’re willing to get the best equipment for your needs, you’ll find you can clear stumps out with minimal trouble.
